Thread: Hi Lift Jack

  1. #11
For rigth now I have the Jeep supplied scissor jack and I picked up from harbor freignt an 8 ton bottle jack. I also keep a 3/4" 12x12 jack board (beach requirement). Not that I am looking to get a hi-lift....without a roof rack or steel bumpers not sure where I would even store a hi-lift and I dont want it mounted on the hood or to give up space inside. With my frameless soft top the roll bar mount would not work either. If I was to go on a serious off-roading trek I would consider throwing one in the back in place of that winch I dont have yet.

TG you can get straps to lift with a high lift that won't trash your jeep but will get you up in the air when you need too.

I wouldnt worry about straps. If you wheeling hard enough to need a high lift to get unstuck, then what ever the jack will do to your rig while using it is the least of your worries. ahhaha I actually have used my jack more as a come-along to keep me from rolling or sliding than I have to jack myself out of a rut. Then again if you have a winch there is no need at all for a highlift...

TG - they make mounts that mount to your spare tire...

This thread was actually started by JeepJunky33 who owns a Liberty and I was just asking questions about where to position the hi-lift to jack up that truck (or any truck with plastic bumpers) but is good to use as a come-along/winch. Personally, I keep two kinds of jacks, no hi-lift, in my Wrangler. I dont care for the look of an exterior mounted hi-lift on a wrangler (rack mounted on a CherokeeLibby or other SUV looks good).
I defer to JeepJunky for any other questions on this topic.

Oh, you're not gonna get off that easy TG. There's an article in the January Four Wheeler (Mineshafts & Axleshafts) which shows a cool vertical Hi-Lift mount off the rear tire carrier. I'll give you the mag later when you stop by.

  7. Even though I have a winch, I am still gonna get a Hi Lift style jack to keep on board cuz the winch wont be of help if i need to change a tire...
