    Roof Rack for snowboard?

does anyone know of a fairly cheap roof rack that would work for snowboards that I can put onto my hard top? I do not want one that I would have to drill into the body to install. Just something that would work on the hard top just for the winter to carry my board. so far the only ones I have seen are the larger cage looking ones and one for canoes. Or would either of those work?
Has anyone used either to carry a snowboard or have a suggestion?

  2. Thule makes an attachment to their bike carriers that attach to the hitch receiver you may want to go that route

I just sold a Topfive rack for $150, was originally $550. Would have worked nice. IMO id go with the spare tire rack. Its right there in front of you. Who wants to climb on there roof at the end of a long day of boarding. The larger roof racks for TJs can be kinda flimsy and like you said I too would stay away from the ones that are drilled into the hard top.

would this work even if I do not have the stock spare tire carrier? that or a hitch one would be nice since I really only want it for going snowboarding.

I think the spare tire ones mount to the lugs on the tire so a different carrier shouldnt matter. But ure right, the one for the hitch is prob better. Easier to take on and off.

I checked out the hitch and spare tire ones, both require getting the mount for the bike then buying the attachment for snow boards / skis.
I also looked at the ones from thule that attach to the rain gutters http://www.orsracksdirect.com/thule-...oof-racks.html
But I also saw a post on jeepforum where someone took a rack off an explorer from a junk yard I am thinking this might be better way to go

Any thoughts on if that would be better? also the hitch ones could those also be used to carry other gear like camping stuff, gas can or a cooler?

Make your own! Get a hitch mount with a lock and maybe buy a used rack and make it work... Harder maybe but cheaper and you could use it for whatever you'd like^

I was thinking I might be able to make something work without buying a carrier, My rear tire carrier comes out about 10 inches from the tail gate and with the tube shape and rear bumper almost forms a basket definitely large enough to fit a couple boards, I just need to figure out a good way to secure them to the rear tire carrier inside this sort of basket and I think I will be set.
