I also fly R/C airplanes. And real ones too lol. Anyway I agree with everyone here that a good place to start would probably be an R/C flight sim so you can get used to the controls. An RTF plane like the one you linked to is probably good to start off with, RTF is Ready-To-Fly and being that it is electric is a good idea.
Right now I'm working on building a 1/4 scale, gas powered Extra 300s..
I belong to Suffolk Aero Modelers... We fly down at Heckscher field 9 and actually have a mini runway there for R/c...
Heckscher sounds like a good meet and greet spot...and to watch some model airplanes in action...cool activity for the kids. When's the next time?

Ive been going to hecksher my whole live, loving watching the planes(at 4:20 in the afternoon) Its really cool that you have that access.
and on a side note hecksher would be a great place for a second meet and greet. Plenty of parking, land and BBQ pits as well.
