The rough country kit also comes with a skid which sounds like a deal...anyone hear any positives or negatives on either ?

agreed with orangecrush4u, I would go with Iron Rock, plus the money you will save can go into a skid plate or what ever else you want.

Really? Hmm thanks for the info. I would of thought they were good. No complaints about my wheel spacers I ordered from them.

Dont get me wrong, you could get lucky and get good quality from them, but from what I have heard of the XJ guys running their lifts, they were not happy with them. Not sure if it was overall quality, ride quality, or what but most have started out with rough country and then later went to a better company. I think customer service had something to do with it too

Problems I have heard is rear springs always sag and just not quality parts. I have only had shocks years ago and they were junk but that was years ago.

Rough Country is great for simple, small lifts. I personally have their 2.5" kit-which I increased to their 3.25" kit. For the $300 or so that it cost me, it was very complete and you couldn't beat the price. 4yrs of daily driving and weekend wheeling the shocks are shot and I'm looking to swap it out for a better quality kit. They do very well in the cheap, small lift packages, but I wouldn't waste any $$ on their more complex larger kits. Their control arms feature the X-joint which is a swivel joint like a Johnny Joint, but is only on one side of the arm which doesn't solve the issue which a swivel joint sets out to solve. The stress still remains on the fixed side. A proper control arm should feature the swivel on both sides to properly relieve stress, otherwise it isn't worth spending $$ on it. I will be the first to uphold RC's products, but within reason. I was completely satisfied with their kit, but again it was a small, simple kit and it just couldnt be beat for price and quality. I suggest if you are looking to go for that size and do all that work, you may as well save and drop the appropriate amount of $$ on a high quality kit.

Interesting...glad I posted then. I kinda want to do a long arm setup for the much better ride etc, but don't have the big money for a bds or claytons. I also don't want to be super high. I see a lot of highway and around town driving plus I have a 4.slow lol. The 4" sounded like a good option...guess I'll look elsewhere.

If you want to run long arms Id stay away from "bolt on kits" all together. They are increasingly over priced and not really made all that well. That is a good amount of height ure looking to gain. IRO has nice stuff for ZJs. But at 4.5" you will want adjustable arms. Your gonna want to adj ure pinion angles at that height. You might be better off piecing a lift together. Different companies are know for making different things. Might even come out to be a little cheaper.

You can always mix and match. At least get a good pair of control arms:clayton, currie, ironman fab, jks (i think), you can save $$ on springs and shocks and go with RC, just expect the shocks to go in a few yrs esp if you daily drive, or spend the $$ on Old Man Emu or Bilstein shocks and go with RC springs. Their springs aren't too bad, kinda soft but do well off road.
Like i said my current kit is RC 2.5" but i have IronMan control arms and 1" terraflex BL. I could actually just toss out their shocks and swap in bilsteins or OME and the kit would be great as the springs aren't too bad, but i like uniformity and id like the springs to be a tad stiffer.
