    Pre Deployment advice

So i know quite a few of you have served in the military.

I am mobilize for deployment to Afghanistan on the 30th. None of my family or my fiance have ever been thru a loved one being deployed. As the date gets closer they are all starting to kinda freak out. It doesnt bother me that i am leaving. But it does bother me to see them soo worried and upset, especially my fiance ( she is worried and upset but very dedicated). They know how dangerous my job will be, I just want them to be able to cope with it the best they can.

Any advice on how to best comfort them.

Or any other advice on the time right before i mobilize.

Its tough. No way around it. Ive dealt with it a lot. They of course nervous for you going to an active zone. The best thing you can do is play it up how safe it is no matter what the real case may be. Play it up how excited you are to go and they should be excited for you and the great opportunity. Relationships get a little more complicated with long periods apart. It can be done. Depends on the people. its actually easier for you to go through every thing you going to do than a girl to sit and wait for you to come home. I had a GF of 4 years and one of 5 years. Now I dont because of the career i had and am now working towards. Its all part of the Job. Wither its worth it or not is up to you...

Oh and make sure they buy you tons of wet ones, beef jerky, dip, and porn! aahahah

Yea i try to tell them that we will have tons of air support and shit to make them feel better.

Truth is we are doing dismounted route clearance patrols in the mountains near the pakistan border, where the most activity happens.

Find the IED's and blow them up, then kick in doors to find the bomb makes.

  6. well as far as the time before you MOB, get laid as much as you can cuz you wont be getting any for a long time once you get there.

for the time there and family back home, tell them you will call and write every chance you get so they know you are ok and still alive. I did this with my parents and kids, and it eased them to hear from me on a some what regular basis.

Things you will need the most over there are Laptop with DVD ROM and movies to watch, Gatorade, Beef Jerky, and anything that wont melt in the extreme heat and is safe to mail through the USPS,
