OUR 13th ANNUAL SUPERBOWL SPLASH!
Boardwalk @ Edwards/Riverside/Long Beach Boulevard
If your looking for to have a great time for an even better cause, look no further. For the last 13 years, (4 for myself) a few of us from OO and 4000 others have been gathering on the beach the morning of Super Bowl Sunday to raise money for the MakeAWish foundation. This event is hosted by the Long Beach Polar bear club in attempt to raise money for terminal children to fulfill one last dream before their time is cut short. Last year alone this event raised over $200,000 dollars for MakeAWish. And we had a damn good time doing it. We usually arrive at around 10 am to get a good spot on the beach. We are soon followed by 4000 or so others for a few hours of tailgating, live music, food and drink before stripping down to our skivvies and hitting the water! This is a family friendly event, with lots of clubs and organizations who come to support their clubs. There is alcohol for those who choose but it never turns into a sloppy event. People are always encouraged to raise money, or donations can be made by buying a hoodie, tshirt, hat etc or even cash donations. But this is a FREE event. All types hit the water, men ,women, little kids, elderly, but If jumping in the ocean isnt your thing, there are just as many dry people there to support the jumpers and cheer everyone on! Hopefully we can turn this year into a meetngreet of sorts for more OO members. I know I will be there weather its 70 deg or buried under 3 ft of snow. And of course jumping in the Atlantic ocean really isnt as bad as it sounds. Its only a dive in and run out thing lasting 30 seconds of your life with bragging rights for years to come. But be sure to bring the proper attire. Warm clothing (easy to take off and on) a blanket to stand on. and a towel. Warm liquids are a plus but help. And some adult additives make the dive easier! haha So I hope to see a good turn out this year. If anyone has and questions, feel free to post up or shoot me a PM. I will be keeping up to date with additional info as we get closer to the date. Also check out the LongBeach Polar bears site. There are donation sheets and a waiver to print and sign but they will have them the day of the jump to fill out. More to get an accurate head count of participants. Hope to see you all out there.

Very cool. Keep your fingers crossed for decent weather. Out of the 3 years Ive done it, there was only one year that was a little harsh. But most of the time its warm enough to hang out before and after the dive for a bit. And like I said, no one has to jump in the water. Just coming out to show support for the cause is more than enough.

Sounds like a good time, I have been wanting to do this since I first heard about them years ago. I would jump into the water without hesitation, but it has never worked out for me to be able to go to Polar Bear function like this. Timing, money or distance has always kept me out of the club. Looks like this year will be the same.
Hope everyone that does go stays safe and has fun

I may be there this year. I grew up around the block from the guy who started it. Real nice dude, started with him and like 5 of his buddies and blew up from there. At least if its really cold out, the water will be warmer than the air!!!
