OK, so am i the only one thats a big enough nerd that i have read every COMIC BOOK issue of The Walking Dead?? I have all the hard cover collections and most of the regular issues. The first 7 issues are very hard to find because when the book started nobody cared about Zombies and the book had a VERY low print run. The first issue can go for as much as $1000. if a high professionally graded book. Kirkman was also on such a low budget, he chose to do the book in black and white. After the book exploded he chose to keep it that way. So to this day the inside art is all in black and white.

I have issues 8 and up. Most people i know have read the hardcover collections. So has anyone read the book? If so, you will find that the writer Robert Kirkman loves to F with your head. Dont grow to like a character. More than likely he will be dead when you least expect it. The book is much more graphic than the show and is more character based. Kirkman started the book because he always loved zombie movies. But he always wanted to know what happened after they got out of the mall. How would the survivors live. The worlds fucked and more than likely you will have to worry about the living more than the dead. Food, water, shelter, sex, travel. How will people live? Can they? If they do, is it a world worth living in? Will they ever eat a Big Mac again?

Im not sure how many OO members have read the comic and are up to date with the book. But figured id see. So this could be the shortest thread in OO history. Then i will crawl back into my nerdy comic collection and sob LOL.

If you want to get hooked you can read the first issue free here. The show followed the first issue almost to a T. But the show had moved further away from the book as the episodes have continued. So the book has plenty of unique surprises.

Untill the show was coming out they went for about $200. on the high side. And that was a pricey book for a comic thats only a few years old. I have one comic from the last 12 years thats worth $120. Ultimate Spiderman #1. Another case of a book that had a low print run and went on to became very popular. Few and far between these days to buy a comic that gonna be worth money. Gotta buy pre 1975 stuff to get anything very collectable.

Mines not graded like this one. But if i did it would grade at a 9.6 or maybe a 9.4

if you like the first 2 issues they do have a compendium that collects the first 48 issues. It goes for about $35. on Amazon and i found a copy for $31. on Ebay. That will get you half way, There up to issue 90 now.

Wow, I never knew how much the 1st issue could go for! I kinda wish the episodes were put out faster. This once a week thing doesn't cut it and I never really got into comics so I don't have any of those to read.

Oh do you know which issue the show is up to? Or about, since I know the show doesn't follow the comic exactly.

Well try being a fan of the book and waiting a month between issues LOL. I was lucky. I got into the book when they where up to issue 48. So i bought the hardcover graphic novel collections and read them quickly. But know i have to wait for each issue once a month. SUCKS.

But the show has changed ALOT of details from the book. I believe Carl got shot around issue 9 or 10. In the book it was Otis that shot him by mistake. But in the book Otis is like 17 and a scrawny guy. And Carl was not as badly hurt. Hershel patched him up quick and there was no need to get supplies. Oh and did i mention Shane has been long dead? LOL. Read the comic to find out who kills him. I also hope they do one thing from the comic. In the comic Hershel has a little secret hes keeping.

The book is so much better than the show. Dont get me wrong i love the show. But Kirkman (the creator) had no rules in the book. Nothing or nobody was safe in the book. Even the biggest characters.

Is this the spoiler topic? lol I think my friend mentioned Hershel's secret. It has something to do with his barn... She was really into the comic, I just never got into it when I could just watch the show lol

Yeah in the comic. Hershel has his friends and dead family members in his barn hoping for a cure. But in the book they get out and more of his family gets killed by his already dead son and wife.
