After getting my plate mangled, I wanted to have some thing that attached to the fairlead so I could take it off when off road or using my winch. I found a few on the internet, but didnt feel like paying $30+ and shipping, so the desision was made to make my own. I am cheap and if I can save a few bucks I will make it myself if I can.
Materials used:
8 1/4" bolts with Locking nuts
16 washers
1 piece of 1/16"-1/8" thick piece of black plastic (you may use any material for this) (color of your choice)
1 set of Mag-light clips
Process:
To make this License Plate Bracket measure and cut your backing material so it is 1" larger than your license plate measurements. Center the license plate in the center and mark were you want your holes to be drilled.
Place your Mag-light clips on the fairlead and make your measurements. on the back of your plate material, measure out where the clips are going to placed. Place the clips on the plate material and mark were the holes are to be drilled.
Now grab your drill with about a 5.5mm drill bit and drill your holes. Dont forget to drill out the holes on the clips too as they need to be large enough for the bolts too.
Bolt the clips to your plate material, then bolt your license plate to the plate material.
Now you are almost done, all that is left to do is go and attach it to your fairlead.
Builders Note: This is for a ROLLER style Fairlead and will not work on a fairlead that is made for a synthetic rope.
I was able to most of my materials out of the garbage at work. The only thing I had to actually purchase was the Mag-light clips and they ran me about $6-7 at Tru-Value.
I know every thread needs pics. I did not take pics when I made my bracket. I will disassemble the bracket and take pics of the assembly and post them as soon as I get the chance to.
