I have come across a group that seems to be heading in the same direction that I am trying to go with my State ORV Park idea...

However, even though they exist it seems like our group is being placed on the sidelines and more is being done for the other groups represented. I will be attending their next meeting in hopes to join the council and find out were we can wheel legally as well as what is being done to meet our needs in the 4WD community. Based on the current situation that we are facing, I would say nothing is being done, though I could be wrong. But then again if there is information that pertains to us that is not being shared, then it is the same as them doing nothing.

The following is an excert from their home page:

"The Trails Council currently consists of delegates representing eleven trail activities, including all-terrain vehicles, bicycling, four-wheel drive vehicles, hiking, equine trail interests, Nordic skiing (cross-country), running, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, trail-bike riding (motorized), and water trails. The representatives for each of these user groups are trail users who do not represent commercial interests."

As things develop, I will post here and keep everyone informed. I know one of the representatives is a member of Adirondack Jeep Club. With any luck, I will be able to join the ranks and work towards my goal of getting places opened up for us to have legal wheeling spots across the state.

Wish me luck.

ok, after a couple of PMs to the guy from Adironak Jeeps, it looks like all I need to do at this point is show up and he will do the rest to get me added on to the represenitive list. After the first couple of mettings, I will have a good feel for what they are doing and what the other 2 guys on the 4x4 group are doing to get us places to wheel legally. The other thing I want to do is try to find out what places are open to 4x4s currently then let you guys and gals here know.

Again, as things develop, I will keep you informed on what I find out. Also, if you have any ideas and I can get them brought up at the meetings, I will do what I can, just post them here and I will make a list to take to the meetings that are held twice a year. Next one is in March.

thank you, I just think it is bullshit that everyone else gets to have places to do their off-road activities and we with 4x4s get screwed because the greenies say we cause too much damage... seriously, how many forest fires have been caused because of a 4x4? Is is the 4x4 communities fault that acres of trees are cut down? The big corporations cause far more damage than a few 4wd vehicles.

I dont know about anyone else, but the majority of the DD 4x4 are far quieter than ATVs and Dirt bikes. I may not be a botanist, but i do remember that plants use CO, CO2 to live, so how are we damaging the trees with our exhaust when the plant life uses it to live and in turn gives us oxygen that we need to live?? Seriously, the prejudice needs to stop.

through this council I think I may have a better launching point for the ORV park project.

For now, I remain optimistic that things will go well...

that you maybe...

on a side note, I have started to think of some questions to ask at my first meeting.

they are as follows:

Are there legal open trails for 4wd vehicles? Yes or No If yes, were are they located? If no, why?

Are there trail maps available? Yes or No If yes, how does one get obtain a copy of the maps? If no, what can be done to create usable maps?

Do any of the state parks have trails that are for 4WD vehicles? Yes or No If yes, what ones? If no, what can be done to create more 4wd trails?

and if you guys and gals have anything you want me to add if i get the time to ask anything, let me know and i will add it to my adjenda. I think this is a good launching point to start from.

If there are any trails available.. is there any sort of sponsorship program.. Where a group or club undertakes the responsibilty to maintain the said trail.

this is a good question and point... kinda like the adopt a highway program many areas like PA has... if not, we could start an adopt a trail program based off the highway one... I will try to find out if anything like it exists... the meeting is in March, the 19th I believe...
