I have to preface my story with the fact that, yes, I can be annoying. I tend to know to much and even worse let people know when they are wrong. I also tend not to use "absolutes" (i.e. always, never, all and every) I usually will say something like "almost always or most rather than every. With this said, I was at work yesterday (my families card store). I had two of my coworkers get very annoyed at me (as they quite often do). The reason for their annoyance was that someone had found a greeting card that they believed was written wrong. It was Christmas card withe a quote from Matthew 2:2. And as I had never read it before, my response was "yeah it probably is wrong, but I've never read it so I don't know". Well one of my coworkers just walked away from me and the other started to argue with me. How come I have to be so difficult and why can't I just accept that it was wrong and why do I need to argue. When I tried to explain why, it just made things worse (I can be a bit long winded and condescending) Well, long story short, I came home, went on the computer, and low and behold, the quote was indeed correct.
This is the quote (sorry for the religious crap) "Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and ARE come to worship him." Now yes, on first reading it seems wrong. And at the time I agreed with them. But , I couldn't say for sure it was wrong. And, in fact, I did find versions that changed "are" to "have". (which would make it sound better and seem correct).
Sorry to rant, but I can't stand the fact that so many people find it to be annoying if you either know to much or question things you don't know. I'm finding more and more people who think that their opinions, beliefs and assumptions are the same thing as facts. And that if you disagree with them or point out their mistake, you are the annoying one.
Thanks for letting me vent.
