I am selling the NV4500 out of my YJ in favor of an auto trans and a 231/D300 doubler. There is nothing wrong with the setup other than I don't want to deal with the overall height of the NV4500 when I build my flat belly skid. Plus, I think a full manual, reverse pattern valve body might be fun!
I purchased this NV4500 from a junkyard. It was pulled from a '92 GM diesel 4x4. Unknown original miles. This model has the 5.61:1 granny low and non-synchronized reverse.
I installed the advance adapters 23 spline Jeep NP231 conversion kit wich included a new output shaft that is similar to the dodge 23 spline output shaft that came in dodge gas powered NV4500 trucks. The only difference is an upgraded overdrive gear retaining nut system.
The kit also included a new beefy aluminum tail housing the mates to an NP231, Dana 300, or Atlas.
While I had it apart I inspected the bearings and small parts and ensured everything was within spec and in good condition. For insurance I installed new syncros from Rockland Standard Gear.
I also installed an oil filter from Quad4x4 in the place of the passenger side PTO cover then filled it up with $138 worth of the special synchromesh gear oil purchased direct from a dodge dealer.
I now have about 2000 miles on it from driving around town and one 300 mile road trip to a Jeep Jamboree event which is the only trail ride this trans has seen. The trans shifts smooth and quiet.
List of all components included:
'92 GM NV4500
New synchros in NV4500 (Rockland Standard Gear)
Oil filter kit for NV4500 (Quad4x4, installed in place of one the PTO covers)
AA P/N: 50-0212, GM NV4500 to NP231 adapter kit (installed, new output shaft, rear housing)
AA P/N: 712577, AA brand GM V8 NV4500 bell housing and clutch fork
AA P/N: CF700160, Centerforce 168 tooth flywheel
AA P/N: 383735, Centerforce 11" dual friction clutch disk
AA P/N: CF165552, Centerforce pressure plate
AA P/N: N1430, Centerforce throwout bearing
AA P/N: 716331, Jeep iron duke slave cylinder
AA P/N: 716130H, 42" slave cylinder hose
I am looking for $1800 obo + shipping for everything.
Freight shipping on a pallet to a business with a loading dock and/or forklift should run about $300 due to the weight.
If you need I can also provide at additional cost:
YJ pedal box with clutch and YJ clutch master cylinder
NP231 with JB conversions super short SYE installed.
Custom tube drop belly skid pictured below. Bolts up to factory skid holes plus four additional cross bolts drilled through frame.
I am located in Southold, NY 11971
If I get enough interest I will part out.
The following pictures are from my initial build. Obviously all the shiny clean aluminum isn't so clean anymore...
