View Full Version : headlight brackets
went wheeling yesterday and ended up breaking the top screw for the adjustment on the drivers side headlight. so my headlight is kinda just dangling around right now, and i cant find any recplacement nuts/bolts online. any DIY tips for someway to mcgyver this bracket back into a held position? im at work (430 am) and just looking for some ideas. (my current one is to find a nut and a washer that fit onto the back of the screw that will fasten it down nice n tightly)

Ditto. I just took some head light parts off the 98 Cherokee we have and may have what you need.

me too i got a header pannel laying around from a 98 xj as well.
argh goddam YJ's (still love it to death tho). ok so i went to home depot today picked up a nut and washer (1/4" nut), was flying blind while buying it. luckily it fits....
so i went to tighten the nut to the back of the screw and waddya kno.. the goddamn screw head gets stripped just my friggin luck. so now the nut is pretty tight on there and the screw head is stripped, so its stuck how it is for the time being, so now i got tie-wire holding the light back so its better than it was before, but this is only temporary
pretty sure XJ headlights and hardware would work on here, ive owned 2 xj's and the hardware looks extremely familiar, along with the headlights being the same.
anyways here is what im working with (the nut is the broken one, the screwdriver is pointing at the problem area, sorry for bad iphone pics)
you think jeep would make better hardware than some plastic nuts, especially when its designed for off-road abuse
ok so on my way home im gunna pick up some JB weld and use that to secure that bolt into a position, thoughts anyone?
i am learning more and more why many YJ owners say that JB Weld and duct tape are "tools of the trade"
