I have an 05 Wrangler with stock oem bumper which is peeling and some rust spots, I was wondering if I can sand the bumper down and repaint it. If so I wanted to know what grit size sand paper I would need and what kind of spray paint would I need to paint the bumper. The bumper will be black and I was going to get the paint at Autozone, advanced autoparts, or pep boys.

well i would start with a course grain sand paper, 60-80 grit, then go to a fine grain, 120-180 grit for sanding. Paint I would use Rustoleum Primer with the rust fixers/inhibitors in it. I usually do 2 coats of primer. Then the color of your choice with the finish you want (gloss, matte, flat, etc). you can paint anything if you take your time and do it right the first time.

120 G then Rustolium self etching primer followed by flat black Rustolium.
Home depot or Lowes would probably be cheaper for paint. If you go to Lowes for the Meet and Greet, you could kill 2 birds with one stone.

I find that semi gloss black looks more stock and factory. Thats what i touch up my XJ, and MJ bumpers with. It also looks good when i repaint the plastic grill and bezal parts. Rustolium Semi gloss black. I also try to use the same brand primer (etching does work best) and final coat. Sometimes 2 different brand paints dont get along to well.
