Hey guys, just signed up because on JeepForums Pugulis referred me to it. I'm Josh, and have a 2001 Lightning, and a 97 Grand Cherokee. The ZJ is my DD and first 4wd vehicle. I'm starting to get the itch to do some mods so soon I think I will be ordering the new Rough Country 4" long arm kit. I dont see me doing any hardcore offroading, but I do want to make it a snow and beach toy. Anyway, looks like there should be some good info to search thru over here and its always nice to deal with a local group.

Its got a fully built and forged motor, ported mustang heads, stage 2 cams, 2.3whipple, full exhaust, 18psi. Ported lower intake, and a built transmission about to go in. Once I get it retuned and all the little bugs sorted out, it should make somewhere around 625rwhp on 93octane.

lol yeah I know...I was originally going to get just 3.5" IRO kit, but my jeep has 130k on all stock suspension. Definetly needs things like new control arm bushings and all that. Rather than fight with them I was going to order new replacement solid arms. One of the guys on JF talked me into goin to the RC kit, just because its only like $200 more and he says it should ride, handle, and drive better as well as have better off road ability. My actual dream is to one day be able to climb one of those big ass mountains of snow you see in the mall parkinglots lol...Dunno if it'll happen, but I'd love to get that picture.

Hopefully I can just figure out how to install the damn thing. lol...

Makes me miss my old 85 F150 short bed. Only vehicle i really miss. It was an old in line 300 with the 4 speed and 2WD so it was no speed machine. But it was clean and i loved it. Primered grey with black Nascar wheels and 275/60 r15s. Sold it to buy my first XJ and got the Jeep bug. Every once in a while i wish i could find that old truck and get it back. I always wanted a Lightning or the Dodge SRT pickup when it first came out. Really nice Lightning man and a good Jeep to start as well. Welcome to OO.

Oh shit lol whats up man ? Will do. Yeah I havent been on that site since Dom went crazy and Banned Wayne when he proved he was wrong for wanting to ban me. In a few weeks I may need a set of hands that knows how to install this lift shit lol. I never did it before so I'd like some help to make sure I dont kill myself or make my poor jeep blow up.

Yup I left when Wayne got the axe and I have never returned since nor do I plan on it. I'm too old to play drama queen games with grown ass men who would rather throw away people who built their site like Wayne and bring back people from another COUNTRY who were slinging around racist/hate messages. I just don't get down like that or with people who think that's ok.

There's a TON of people up in the Huntington area on the site here. I don't think it's going to be any problem getting you all the help you need.

Oh it wont deter me, I'm generally pretty good at figuring this kinda stuff out. But with everything being adjustable I'd like to have someone there that's done it so I don't end up with my axle being crooked or my steering box falling out lol. I'm basically wanting to do a complete overhaul of the suspension and steering components. I'm hoping that even though I'm lifting it, I can eliminate some of the massive mushy worn stock stuff, as well as the bodyroll. Want it all done in time for next winter lol.

At least you have a realistic time frame, hell, if you buy everything and wait till you have all the components you could get it all done in a week if you wanted... thats with even sleeping at night.

Well it is my DD so I was actually hoping that once I get all the parts in that the install could be done in a weekend. I refuse to take my Lightning to my job because people just don't care and park right on top of you. The lot is so small there's no way to escape it either. If needed though I wouldn't mind taking a Friday or Monday off to extend the weekend and finish the job. Once I do the tune up and exhaust on it the lift is next, followed by a much needed lighting upgrade..

well then figure on a weekend for the lift, and a day per each steering up grade you wanna do. then decide where you want to start and just go for it. the best way to learn is to do it. The time frames given are under best case, so figure on adding 24-48 hours if things go wrong and bolts brake ect.

By steering upgrade I was just planning on a new stabilizer, and the KOR steering reinforcement kit. Thought that should only take a couple hours? I know a couple holes have to be drilled though. My basic full suspension was the 4" RC LA kit, addco sway bars front and rear, IRO adj rear track bar, new ball joints, the IRO heavy duty tie rod setup, spidertrax spacers, and a friend is giving me a good deal on some 31x10.5x15 grabber at2's mounted on cragar soft 8s. Originally wanted something more different but its a really good deal. Think that should basically give me a brand new suspension front to back. Unless I'm missing something ?

Yeah I know that part sucks.. Hopefully in a newer version. I'm thinking about getting the site setup with the vbulletin based app but it's going to be a lot of work and I gotta get developer accounts for itunes and droid marketplace, etc. only so much time in the day!

You should see Tapatalk on my BlackBerry.. lol it's free but a giant POS.

We'll get the branded app eventually, prolly winter when I have less to do and less distractions pulling at my free time. Let the forum nerds work out all the bugs for the rest of us!

Yeah mobile sites generally bite. We have a light mode setup that can be chosen but it still does not compare to Tapatalk or a site-branded app.

your jeep looks like an early modle of the Grand Cherokee, so unless you have replaced every nut, bold, and screw AND loosen and tighten them down every so often, be prepared for your jeep to fight you. You may even break a few bolts or screws along the way... It always looks easier in your mind than it ends up being in real life. for you not as big of a deal since you have the lightining to fall back on if something happens or to make a parts run with.

So yea, what you are missing is that your jeep is XX years old with XXX miles on it and this may be the first time any work may have been done to the steering and suspention, be ready for nuts, bolts, or screws to break. you will most likely break at least one in the process

Also, when you reassemble, use some anti-seize so they come off easier next time you make adjustments or replace parts

Well its a 97 so its almost as young as a ZJ can be lol...I know what you mean, but Ive never had a bolt break. Maybe stripped a few but never actually break. Guess we'll find out soon enough. I just dont want to have to pay someone like RMS or something to put it together.

You don't fool me. I've read your L threads for YEARS now before and after it was temp down, and I know with great confidence you can tackle this with no problem. It might be your first rodeo on the ZJ but it's basically just a ton of bolt-on work.

Oh o.k. lol, I was sitting in the turn lane to take a shortcut up, and there was a chick in a lifted, silver 2dr Wrangler with 2 guys and a dog in the back. Actually thinking about it it wasnt a boxer, it was one of those dogs like "Chico" in Next Friday. lol.

LoL Alot of those threads I had help on. Before I get to that lift stuff though I have some maintenence work done. Getting ready to order a "Performance Tune up kit" from Kolak, and need to fix my rattling shitty stock exhaust. Then I want to clean up some underhood, get a new hood, and then its Lift/suspension time lol.
